The Interac network verifies phone-based transactions — both in person and online — using security “tokens” that protect customers’ sensitive data from being intercepted.

Spending limits

Per transaction and cumulative spending limits for contactless transactions, as set by your financial institution, help make sure the rightful person is tapping to pay.

Real-time payment confirmation

Funds are moved in real time from the customer’s account, reducing the risk of insufficient funds or accepting fraudulent transactions.

No sensitive account numbers shared

The number on the front of a debit card is only an identifier, not an account number, helping protect customer privacy and reduce your compliance burden.

A secure card-free way for customers to pay online

With Interac Direct, exclusively available with the
KONEK e‑commerce payment solution, your customers can pay online directly from an eligible bank account2 — including chequing, savings and lines of credit and credit or debit cards — without having to enter their card details on your website. It’s a convenient and secure (not to mention 100 per cent Canadian) way to pay.
