Popping up at Metro supermarket parking lots, Metro Retro\u2019s nostalgic movie and music nights are making 20 stops across Ontario.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>From May through September 2022, Ontarians have the chance to take in a throwback film, experience a MusicLife pre-show performance, and shop to support local businesses at the InLife<sup>TM<\/sup> Marketplace \u2014 all while supporting local food charities. These young performers all hail from the GTA, including funky R&amp;B singer <a href=\"https:\/\/open.spotify.com\/artist\/5Pqfj0BtkBBdvxrAhfOdIt\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">thehonestguy<\/a>, poet-singer <a href=\"https:\/\/open.spotify.com\/artist\/25kP2BS0h2Cz34zQYKSZWk\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Levyi-Alexander J. Love,<\/a> and soul artist Zenesoul.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>We recently caught up with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.zenesoul.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">ZENESOUL<\/a> (pronounced \u2018Zen-Soul\u2019), an R&amp;B \/Soul artist from Brampton, Canada. Born in Nigeria, Zensoul aka <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbc.ca\/news\/canada\/toronto\/brampton-juno-nominee-1.6449112\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Angie Akhinagba<\/a>, incorporates authentic R&amp;B, Neo-Soul and Afro-Beats vibes into her songs, creating a lush and soulful sound that\u2019s all her own.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For Zenesoul, music is all about sharing experiences and empowering people to feel they are not alone. She loves that Metro Retro is bringing people together again after so long, by connecting the two art forms of cinema and music. &#8220;Being able to get back into performing in the community is just amazing. It&#8217;s one thing to create music, it&#8217;s another to share it in an environment filled with love.&#8221;&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>She explains, \u201cInterac is giving me this opportunity to do what I&#8217;m passionate about and connect with audiences across Ontario. As a MusicLife featured artist, I&#8217;m so excited to perform at places I never imagined and engage with new audiences.\u201d&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For Zensoul, the MusicLife pre-show is about \u201ccelebrating diversity in Canada and giving audiences the opportunity to hear our voices.\u201d&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Supporting local business at the InLife<sup>TM<\/sup> Marketplace&nbsp;<\/strong>&nbsp;<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Movie-goers also have the chance to support a variety of unique and locally sourced vendors at this year\u2019s InLife<sup>TM<\/sup> Marketplace. Shining a spotlight on small Ontario businesses, the InLife<sup> TM<\/sup> Marketplace features local vendors in partnership with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.metro.ca\/en\/products-to-discover\/green-living\/buy-local\/meet-your-local-suppliers\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Metro\u2019s Locally Sourced<\/a> vendor program.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Clearly, getting behind local business has never been more crucial. As one Metro Retro attendee put it, \u201cSupporting local [businesses] means we are supporting our own and feels good. I supported local [businesses] to keep them alive during the pandemic. Now, it\u2019s more important than ever to help them recover and thrive.\u201d&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Participating as a merchant for his second year, Andrew Kinnear is the small business owner of the family-run <a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/yellofruit\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"><strong>Yellofruit<\/strong><\/a> \u2014 a delicious organic, plant-based ice cream made from bananas. As he joins the 2022 GTA tour, Kinnear describes the magic of Metro Retro:\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-pullquote\"><blockquote><p>A drive-in right in the middle of the city is a lot of fun. It&#8217;s great for families. It&#8217;s great for a date night. It just works.&nbsp; Small businesses, Metro, and the Interac folks are all working together for the community. It\u2019s super cool and there\u2019s no cost for vendors like me to participate.<\/p><cite>Andrew Kinnear, Yellofruit<\/cite><\/blockquote><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>For Yellofruit, the InLife<sup> TM<\/sup> Marketplace comes at the right time. \u201cThe real challenge since the pandemic has been meeting new customers and introducing them to our ice cream. At the Marketplace, I can sample Yellofruit, meet my customers face-to-face, and share my passion about the product.\u201d&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Vendors at the InLife Marketplace can also leverage <em>Interac<\/em> Debit contactless payments as a form of payment with attendees. According to Kinnear this makes life easier for both himself and his customers. \u201cInterac provides a real level of convenience. It just makes things very smooth for my customers and my business, versus the complexity of having to touch cash and make change.\u201d&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He explains, \u201cInterac is in everyone\u2019s pocket. Customers mostly tap their phones using it with Apple Pay and other mobile payment.\u201d&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A Metro Retro movie-goer agrees, \u201cI never carry cash. I like being able to tap and be on my way. It helps me get more done.\u201d&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Indeed, these days, it <em>is<\/em> all about getting more done with less. Being a small business owner isn\u2019t easy. But Kinnear is driven by his passion for building his dream and taking control of his future. \u201cBecoming an entrepreneur and taking my destiny into my own hands has been incredibly exciting and fulfilling. I love building my business together with my family.\u201d&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-making-the-most-out-of-life-and-summer-nbsp\"><strong>Making the most out of life and summer<\/strong>&nbsp;<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Metro Retro Drive-In event is bringing everyone together for a night out at the movies.
